Family Chillaxing Time

The weekend is over but I think the humans are happy the entire week is over and hope they (and we) can have a less eventful stressful new week. Milou is not completely back to normal but we sure hope he will get better.

Thank you so much again for all your powerful purrs. Here’s a rare family picture of us three to thank you!

Notice the natural born leader in this house is on top ;-) Life is good.

So, with everything that happened, my editorial schedule was all messed up. Here is what is going to take place the coming week: on Tuesday, I will have super great news about my blog; on Thursday, my human and I are going to review the same great book we were supposed to review last Thursday; on next Caturday, we will have another book review (and a giveaway) related to kitties (of course) and poetry and drawings!

Wishing you all a good week to come!

[Comments have been disabled – I will tell you why on Tuesday]

Thanks to Ann of Zoolatry for the graphic

Hiya furriends,

So we have partial good news!

The vet has made the humans wait all day to get back to them because he was doing a surgery (but not to Milou!).

Milou has been doing better. He is eating (now, that’s our Milou!). But the vet wanted to keep him another night. If he’s doing as well until tomorrow, the humans will be able to bring him home!

Of course, the inflammation problem will have to be dealt with later, but right now, this is good news!

THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone for their purrs, prayers, thoughts and get-well wishes! I knew that Milou would be able to feel all your love!

Thank you!!

Hiya everyone!

I had planned a Wordless Wednesday but it won’t happen because we are a little bit worried about Milou.

He has not been feeling too well lately. First he has lost a lot of weight and that’s just not Milou. So the humans took him to the vet on Friday and it turned out he has a urinary infection.

Another problem is that he has inflamed intestines. It might be the inflammatory bowel disease, or something else that we all hope it is not. A biopsy is necessary to know more.

In the past 24 hours, Milou has barely eaten but he drank a lot. It is very unlike Milou not to eat. So the humans were really worried. So he went back to the vet yesterday and the vet kept him in observation for the night.

We are quite worried and are purring for him. We cross our paws for better news soon. I will keep you updated.

A Box Story

Not so long ago, when my human’s Mom sent me my favorite food for my purrthday, it was packed – you guessed it! – in a box. The box is from the French post office and it can be folded and unfolded.

Of course, it is not enough that the usual suspects would play with MY tunnel… some Mademoiselle has to get MY box too!

I was peacefully napping in my box when…

Who's this? Is this Kitshka?

Who’s this? Is this Kitshka?

Yes, it is Kitshka...

Yes, it is Kitshka…

Kitshka: Hiya Texas! Can I come play in your box? Texas: No!

Kitshka: Hiya Texas! Can I come play in your box?
Texas: No!

Kitshkla: purrlease... Texas: Seriously no!

Kitshka: purrlease…
Texas: Seriously, no!

Kitshka: Come on... Texas: Get out or I'll bunny kick you out!

Kitshka: Come on…
Texas: Get out or I’ll bunny kick you out!

Kitshka: But we can both fit in it! Texas: Out! Out!

Kitshka: But we can both fit in it!
Texas: Out! Out!

Out out out!

Out out out!

Kitshka: Texas is being mean with me, sniff... Texas: Awww... well, okay, let's share the box...

Kitshka: Texas is being mean to me, sniff…
Texas: Awww… well, okay, let’s share the box…

Kitshka: Hooray!! Texas: I think I'm gonna have to find me another box...

Kitshka: Hooray!!
Texas: I think I’m gonna have to find me another box…

Kitshka: Don't take so much room, Texas! Texas: Yep, I need another box...

Kitshka: Don’t take so much room, Texas!
Texas: Yep, I need another box…

Hey, Texas!

Hey, Texas!

Are you leaving?

Are you leaving?

I guess that means the box is mine then, right?

Tunnel Envy

My tunnel is super cool and super fun to play with, in, around! I haven’t used it to teleport yet but K and I had lots of fun chasing each over through it.

Needless to say that everyone here, except the humans – Thank Ceiling Cat! – wants to play with it!

Here are the usual suspects, waiting for their turn.

Of course, you’ve seen Kitshka already. Look at Milou.

If only he would stop hissing at me all the time, we could play together!

Have a great, playful Sunday, everyone!

I don’t know if you have noticed, but lately, my human has seized any occasion to post a link to her bloggie on MY BLOG. What can I say? I have way more followers than she has. Ah!

Nevertheless, she came up with an idea she came up with some links from bloggies she was following and I came up with an idea!

Some of the blogs she is following – cooking or other blogs but not cat blogs per se – sometimes post stories about the kitties in the bloggers’ lives. Sometimes I post the links of some posts on my Facebook profile because I think you might enjoy checking them.

So I came up with an idea: Why not post the links in a post here? This could be a monthly post. We think anything kitty-related is interesting, don’t you think?

Please, check the links below and at the bottom of this post, I added a quick survey for you to tell me if you like the idea and would like me to try a monthly edition. Be honest! These are links I have selected because I think you might enjoy checking them, but you are the best able to tell me ;-)

Thank you in advance and enjoy!

This first link is just so you can see cute Norma Jean!

Here are pictures of Flyball, eating baby spinach leaves! I think I’ll stick with chicken though =^.^=

Want to visit the Agora in Athens? What about a kitty as a guide?

The kitties at Love & Olive Oil have trained their humans well!

And finally for the March edition, how to make a cardboard cat condo! That’s a nice project for your humans, I think.

Hope you liked the links! Don’t forget to vote. I already have 5 links for April – and we can never get enough kitties, can we? – but I want to know if you are interested! Thank you!

When the humans are in the kitchen, I like to be not too far from them…

Sometimes, little yummy noms fall on the floor and I catch them help the humans clean up.

Sometimes, the humans want me to clean their fingers too. I like to clean their fingers.

But the best moment in the kitchen is in the morning…

That’s when the humans get the cream cheese out of that white and cold closet behind me… Mmmmh… cream cheese…

Is it the white closet they’ve just opened?!?

Dreamy Caturday & Sunday

What have you been up to yesterday?

My human was out most of the day yesterday – grocery shopping (there was no more wet food!!) – so I took a little nap.

I was dreaming Spring had finally arrived. It was warm and… my human came home and the cold wind entered the home! I woke up!

Apparently there’s a winter storm coming our way. A WINTER storm. Do we need to elect a new Ceiling Cat or something to finally have Spring?

Meanwhile, if you really don’t know what to do, check what my human has found in the place called Manhattan (click on the picture to go to her blog’s post). She claims this is not raw fish! Hmpf!

Hope you have a great Sunday!

[Still not sure what VBP is? Check here.]

I admit it, and not reluctantly (VBP), I have been having fun finding idioms and expressions related to kitties both in English and in French. This is my third post (first here, second there) and I want to mention all the expressions you shared.

Yes, I think this bi-cultural (VBP) interest is the cat’s meow… or the cat’s pyjamas.

Unfortunately, there is no exact French translation for these expressions, at least none with the word cat. An appropriate translation, depending on the context, could be le fin du fin (the best of the best, or la crème de la crème – nom!).

Now, let me illustrate the cat’s meow according to Kitshka (we hope we get it right).

Would you say my tocks are the cat’s meow for Kitshka?

If you are interested in learning more about French expressions that are about cats, we would like to suggest this page done by our furriends at Autour des Chats. It is very well done!
We will also keep on featuring (VBP) French and English expressions here =^.^=

The human came to us yesterday evening to tell us that she was ready to help me, Texas, with the typing for my blog. She had a little time.

She thinks we wait for her to get a life. Well, no human. We are busy doing impawtant things most of the time.

So come back later. Thank you.

[Still not sure what VBP is? Check here.]

Two weeks ago (already!), I posted a VBP post about French and English idioms that were related to kitties.

My dear furriends and readers shared some other idioms and expressions that I would like to start sharing with you today.

First one was suggested by Easy.

to put a spoke in somebody’s wheel: to spoil someone else’s plans and stop them from doing something

We knew the literal translation in French, that is “mettre des batons dans les roues”.

But Easy knew another translation that we like better – kind of:

“to throw a cat in someone’s legs” or in French, “jeter un chat aux jambes de quelqu’un”.

Sammy mentioned the expression “cat got your tongue?” which in French would translate into “tu as donné ta langue au chat ?” (“you gave your tongue to the cat?”).

Clowie reminded us of the expression “when the cat’s away, the mice will play”, with translates exactly the same in French: quand le chat n’est pas là, les souris dansent.”

More next week =^.^=

I must apologize (again) for my human: I was unable to post a VBP post the past week and only my furriend Savannah posted one here. Thank you, Savannah.

As a reminder (VBP), you can still post your VBP post until tonight for this week and enter the link to your post via Savannah’s post by clicking on the bluey badge.

Between her “work” and her “classes,” my human monopolized (VBP) the computer and ignored our longing (VBP) for blogging and visiting our furriends. Hmpf.

But fear not my furriends, tomorrow there will be a new VBP post AND I will also post the links to the past two weeks’ pawticipants =^.^=

Meanwhile, Kitshka and I are getting ready for Spring, preparing our fur as necessary. Except Kitshka is more interested in playing… (Notice the laser eyes to the human ;-)

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Today’s memories are not very old: they date back to January 2012.
My human was certain to have pics of me in France experimenting snow for the very first time on a balcony, but she cannot find them right now.

***Short pause to look at her with airplane ears***

So here is my first encounter with NY snow. Of course, we get a LOT more snow here when it snows than in France. In any case or country, I think it’s cold and has little interest, really.

If you cannot see the video, please click here.

Because my human has a cold (again!) and because of a funny thing she told me recently, I decided that I would use my polyglot (VBP) skills to do my post. Of course, right now, you can’t see the link with my human’s cold and the funny thing she told me, but keep reading.

When my human went to the Architects for Animals event, she met one of my favorite human bloggers, ailurophile (VBP) Layla, of Cat Wisdom 101.

I’ll spare (VBP) you the details, but at one point, my human learnt a new expression:

To have a frog in one’s throat

Well, guess what kitties? In French, the exact translation of this expression is:

Avoir un chat dans la gorge

or “to have a cat in one’s throat.”

Source:cheezburger.com

Source:cheezburger.com

You’d think the French would prefer the frog! You’d be wrong!

There are a couple of other French expressions using the word cat. In the comments of my last post, Sparky Spitfire asked me how to say “peek a boo” in French. There is no exact translation for it (something like “jouer à/faire coucou” would do), but it made me think of another expression.

“Play tag” translates into… you guessed it! “Jouer à chat” or “jouer à chat perché” (literally “play cat” or “play off-ground cat”).

I knew that my smart readers would not simply “give up” and… “donner sa langue au chat” (“give one’s tongue to the cat”)!

Can you think of other expressions with the word cat, in English or another language?

I have a love-hate relationship with suitcases. While they are fun to play in and sometimes comfy to sleep in (especially when the human has already put clothes in one of them), they usually mean that the human is leaving for an undetermined number of days. Sometimes I might travel with her, though.

When I was younger, my human had to travel a lot, and I quickly understood that suitcases were not a good sign: they have the power to steal my human from me!

One day, to show my discontent, I peed in an empty one my human had left opened. You think my human would have thanked me for trying to prevent the suitcase from kidnapping her? Pfft, not even! She was not pleased at all!

So I tried different techniques, but mostly sit-ins. It never deterred my human from leaving :-/

Yes, human. It is your lingerie. Why?

We have not told you yet (I think) but this little project, initiated by Jet and her Mom, was started several months ago. The humans’ lives being what they are, they sometimes got in the way and hampered (VBP) its realization. But everything comes in time, and in the meantime, we have discovered that several other bloggers have a keen (VBP) interest in words.

So today, I thought I would present to all of you a potpourri (VBP) of those we have discovered.

Austin @(CAT)achresis with Dr. Austin Tuxedo’s Word of the Day at the end of each post. Dr. Austin sure knows how to play with words!

Liousha & Tiki @Liousha & Tiki and Graffiti, Zingara & Romeo @La Voix aux Chats-Pitres with Charabia (check here and here) give us French kitty vocabulary lessons!

Saffy, Cosmo, and Phoebe, and their human Angie @Catladyland with Fanglish, or the “the underground feline code of lingo known as Fanglish.”

Nerissa @Nerissa’s Life with My Personal A to Z Challenge (here is the latest post in the series)

I am perplexed (VBP). I think my human is forgetting some bloggers…

If you happen to be regularly playing with words and expressions on your bloggie and you are not on the list, we might either have missed you or the human has forgotten to include you. Leave me a message and I will do a sequel (VBP) next week!

Happy VBP everyone!

Yesterday, I was reading Daisy’s post at PetMeds Blog and I learned that today is National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day!

Needless to say, all three of us – Milou, Kitshka, and I – have questions for our humans! So there you go!

Milou

How come I cannot eat Texas’ and Kitshka’s yummiest food?
Because it makes you seriously sick, then I have to get you to the V-E-T and he performs outrageous things on your business end to fix you.

Why are you feeding me only 18 times a day when I’m hungry 28 times?
Because I actually have to work so I can afford your diet food among others, and get a little sleep (I don’t require 18h a day but still).

I’m hungry. Can I have food now?
You had food 10 minutes ago!

Kitshka

Can the birdies outside be invited inside the house?
No sweetie, they are meant to live outside. Inside, they could not fly.

How come I cannot eat Texas’ and Milou’s yummiest food?
Because you have your special kitten food, so that you can healthily grow into a beautiful Ladycat. Texas is currently on diet food* and Milou has a special urinary diet.

Why don’t you let the cream cheese on the table, ever?
I don’t want it to turn sour.**

Me, Texas

Why don’t you eat fresh shrimps more often?
Because we don’t want to eat shrimps everyday.

Why can’t we keep all the boxes you receive?
I know you love boxes, Texas. And there will always be boxes for you to play with. We cannot have boxes everywhere though. We, humans, live here too, you know (not in boxes though).

How come I cannot eat Milou’s yummiest food?
Because Milou has a special urinary diet, he cannot eat*** anything else, and this type of food is very high in calories.

* Texas: Human! You didn’t have to tell!
** Kitshka: Yeah, right. Just because I am a kitten doesn’t mean I am stupid. You just don’t want to share!
*** Milou: Speaking of eating…

This morning, I read this great post at The Conscious Cat about how humans should take time for themselves. Those are simple yet very wise pieces of advice. It puzzles me that humans have to be reminded about that.

After reading that post, I convinced Kitshka that we should help our human relax and take Sunday in a relaxing way. She has to take time for herself (after feeding us of course) instead of using the evil vacuum cleaner to clean the house. Kitshka was playing with my tail, as always, while I was deep in thought and I had to convince her it would be fun. And fun it was.

Here is how we tried to use hypnosis to relax our human (You can click on the pics to get a closer look at our method).

Your eyelids are heavy human, very heavy... you want to close your eyes...

Your eyelids are heavy human, very heavy…
You want to close your eyes…

Texas: You feel like laying down... lay down on the couch nearby... Kitshka: Texas I feel a little snoozzzzzzzz...

Texas: You feel like laying down… lay down on the couch nearby…
Kitshka: Texas I feel a little snoozzzzzzzz coming…

And at that point there was a big BANG and a human OUCH!

Texas: Oooops! Kitshka: Did you forgot there was a coffee table between her and the couch, Texas?

Texas: Oooops!
Kitshka: Did you forget there was a coffee table between her and the couch, Texas?

Kitshka: I wonder if we could get cream cheese that way Texas: Probably

My human went to the Third Annual “Architects for Animals: Giving Shelter” event last Thursday. This project, which was launched in 2010, aims at helping NYC feral cats:

Every year since 2010, some of New York’s most prestigious architectural designers, through an inventive project called Architects for Animals, have been helping New York City’s feral cats by creating imaginative winter shelters to provide them with a refuge from the cold. We are delighted to present these collections of unique, inspired winter shelters for public viewing at the Architects for Animals: Giving Shelter exhibit before they are placed in locations throughout the city to provide comfort for the cats. This annual exhibition benefits the New York City Feral Cat Initiative of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals.

It was taking place in the place called Manhattan, very close to Columbus Circle.

I would like to start by thanking Sparkle for posting so quickly about the event (that’s how we learned, and we live in NY!), and Tamar of I Have Cat for sending the info to bloggers.

Thankfully, a lot of people showed up; the showroom was crowded.

So of course, my human didn’t even offer to bring me to the event. Okay, there was a LOT of people, but she could have offered still.

My human took the pictures during the event, so the pictures tend to be crowded too. You can see good shots of each shelter at Cat Wisdom 101 and I Have Cat. But here are my human’s.

Leslie Farrell, founder of Architects for Animals, made a short speech to thank everyone. She got a little emotional.

She invited everyone to pick some kibbles at the buffet to put in their favorite shelter’s bowl, in order to vote. Yes, furriends, despite my human pretending there would be only human food at the buffet, there were kitty kibbles!

The first one is by M. Moser Associates. You can click on the third picture to read more about these kitty pods.
See the bowl on the floor? That’s in those that people could vote by throwing kibbles in there.

The following one, Shelter A, was created by Callison Barteluce. You can also click on the third pic to see details (although the quality isn’t that great)

The following one, Swiss Cheese by Stonehill & Taylor, was entirely made of recycled materials.

The next one is a simple, one cat shelter, by H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture. You can click on this one.

Since this is NYC, it’s only fair that kitties have their skyscraper (okay kinda) too. This one is by Francis Cauffman.

The last one my human took pictures of (apparently, she missed one) is quite original. It is made with recycled cat food cans (yes, cat food cans!) that are insulated. The shelter is made so that 2 to 4 cats can be inside it at the same time, but still not be too close to one another (I am not sure it is very visible on the third picture, but the inside kind of has corners). It was made by the American Street Cat. This shelter is aready being used (check here).

Last but not least, this DIY NYC Cat Fort, by Pilot Projects. Isn’t that cool?! You can find the details here.

My human was glad to see Tamar of I Have Cat and Layla of Cat Wisdom 101, that she had both met at the Rentaneko projection. She was also very glad to meet Kevin and Tracey of Animal Shelter Volunteer Life. I wish I could have meet them too!

All in all, my human says the event appeared to be successful. Let’s hope it will be able to do its part to help NYC feral kitties.

You can find more pictures here, as well as “in progress photos of a habitat for NYC’s homeless animals,” Stonehill & Taylor’s shelter, on Stonehill & Taylor’s Facebook page.

First of all, a big THANK YOU to everyone who voted for me for the Westchester Magazine contest! I am SO lucky to have you for Furriends! I will, of course, keep you posted (VBP) on the results.
(If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you might have missed this post ;-)

Secondly, my human was at Architects for Animals: Giving Shelter yesterday and I will post some pictures tomorrow. So come back tomorrow, please :-)

Now, I know that you are waiting for Little K, aka (VBP) Mademoiselle Kitshka’s pictures so, here they are! The pics are not great because my human used her iPhone for fear Kitshka would follow her if she went looking for a better camera.

What is Kitshka’s strategy to break into Milou’s heart? Naps.

This first two pictures were taken last September. This was Kitshka’s first nap with Milou. Milou wasn’t too pleased.

Since Milou was grumpy before Grumpy Cat was his idol, Kitshka tried a different approach. She tried to charm him by keeping a little distance.

Then nothing much happened. They played a little bit from time to time, he hissed a lot.

Then the other day, Kitshka tried her charms on Milou again. Starting with the second approach, first.

And then today…

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

See how my charm works marvels?

See how my charm works marvels?

Good morning, Milou!

Good morning, Milou!

Kitshka: Nothing like a good yawn to start the day!
Milou: Is she impersonating Celine Dion?

Kitshka: I think we should exercise a little. What do you think?
Milou: Hmpf

Kitshka: Too too too you toot*…
Milou: OMC! She’s impersonating the female human!

No! Don't go, Milou!

No! Don’t go, Milou!

Kitshka: Look! The human is taking pics of us!
Milou: I know that! Texas is going to make fun of me on his blog again!

Kithska: What if we ask the human to stop taking pics?

Kithska: What if we ask the human to stop taking pics?

Can you stop taking pics?

Can you stop taking pics?

Kitshka: I guess we’re done here then

* I thought I would share some of the humans’ French culture. Ahem. Dates back to when they were kids. The “too too you toot” link is the music of a French aerobics TV program. Check here. Humans, they are funny sometimes.

All this movement made me feel like napping…
