Because my human left us for three days in snowy New York to go to sunny California for something related to work, we’re a lot behind reading your posts and blogging again.

So, exceptionally, we will post our VBP post tomorrow (we do want to post the links to everyone who participated and it takes some time since we cannot do it automatically).

But today, we wanted to wish you a HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!
Enjoy the day with the humans and furriends you value and love!

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013!

2012 brought us many surprises, good and bad.
The sad part was that we lost Grouik. We still miss you lots, Grouik, especially Milou.
The good part was that we met many furriends, may I add furry and human. Our furriends were there to support us in the bad times, we tried our best to support them when they needed some purrs too. We are very lucky to have found you and we really – REALLY – appreciate you visiting my little blog. So THANK YOU!

For 2013, we wish you all that your heart desires and deserves, as well as lots of purrs, treats, and for the humans, some of our fur to make your black pants a little more sophisticated!

Before closing the 2012 page, we thought we would do a small retrospective (VBP) of some of our 2012 posts. We decided to show you those that got the most likes, one per month.

I started the year in January with a Yeats poem. In February, bed sharing had only just begun.

Texas-in-Grouik's-bed-02

In March, bed sharing was in full swing.

In April, Milou was trying to steal my wind (no pun intended – please!).

In May, I demanded an explanation to Milou.

June brought fresh catnip.

July was a very sad month, because Grouik went to the Rainbow Bridge. So instead of linking to a post, I will link to his page.

August brought us Kitshka!

September was destroy-a-toy month for Kitshka.

New-Toys_07

October brought us cold weather. Brrrrrr.

In November, we purred for peace (still are of course).

In December, we kept ourselves warm and almost cozy!

Today, Mademoiselle Kitshka is 6 month old! Happy birthday, Kitshka!
Now that you’re almost not a kitten anymore, could you stop playing with my tail? What? No. Pfft. Okay.

Here are pictures of little K. striking a paws on (in?) one of our Christmas gifts!

~~~
Since today is Boxing Day, we didn’t want to miss it! We LOVE boxes! And that is part of the wonderfulness of Christmas: boxes left behind!
I know on this day we are supposed to give our humans a gift, but aren’t we, kitties, a year-long gift, really?
~~~

And last but not least, I would like to say thank you to Ann at Pawsitively Pets for making me a drummer kitty in her fabulous Anipal Tribute to the 12 Days of Christmas. Check it out, it is fantastic! Here’s little not-so-old me:

Thank you Ann!

Purrs to all!

Hiya furriends!

Yes, we are still alive. No, the world has not ended for us either. And yes, we intend to keep on blogging. My human is now on holidays for about 10 days so I expect her to take care of me and my blog!

I was a little mad at her (not too much because otherwise, Santa Paws might not come…) because the place she goes to work, the mysterious place called Manhattan, takes a lot of her time.

First, she told me that she had the opportunity to meet the lovely Ingrid King of the Conscious Cat last Wednesday. I was a little jealous! I love the Conscious Cat and Ruby & Allegra! I was glad that Ms. King autographed her latest book, Purrs of Wisdom, to my human and me though! Purrs to you! And to Ruby & Allegra!

Also, my human has been updating her own blog with a daily picture of the place called Manhattan at the time of Christmas. I couldn’t care less really. At first. But the other day, she called me and told me: “Texas, look, I’ve got some pictures for you!”

It seems that several decorations in the place called Manhattan were about animals! Yes, really! Look at the selection below and click to have a bigger view, and my comments!

But I’ve kept the best for the end, kitties! The French jewelry brand Cartier has 2 gigantic… kitties! Well, okay, probably panthers (putting a paw on your hand so you would check this link – no, you don’t need to know French). But kitties are just apartment panthers, aren’t we?

So now that I see that there are plenty of interesting things in the place called Manhattan, I think I would like to go. Yes Kitshka, you can come with me.

What do you think kitties?

Kitshka will be 6 months the day after Christmas and the humans say it is time to get her “fixed.”
Huh?! I know Kitshka can be a little fury but not so much that you would want her “fixed.”

Then my human reminded me when they brought me to the V-E-T a long time ago, too. I sighed.

Kitshka is going to the V-E-T tomorrow. My human says she has to, although my human seems to be a little sad and nervous about it. Can I please ask that you send some purrs toward K. tomorrow?
She’ll be back home on Friday. My little K sister.

In the meantime, Kitshka is being herself alright. In fact, she is competing to become the naughtiest kitty of the year at our furriend Sammy’s place. Check it out, you can vote for the naughtiest kitty! Maybe Kitshka?

You see, my food is inaccessible to Milou because he has a special urinary diet, and so far was inaccessible to Kitshka too, because she, too, has her special (kitten) diet. She couldn’t reach my food.

Although she cannot jump to the top of this piece of furniture yet, she really wants to. Well, she wants to reach my food!

Clever little K quickly found out how to use the drawers’ ledge to climb her way to the top!

It took some time to my human to get the final close-ups, because she is quick! It also forced the humans to be extra creative and redecorate the drawers ;-)

What do you think? Naughty Kitshka? She’s not alone though! Go check at Sammy’s and vote!

What human? I was naughty too when I was a kitten? Meeeee?! Nah! That’s different: your wallpaper was ugly, I was helping you redecorate!

So I had to help my human wrap gifts to our winner RumblePurr as well as to our Secret Paws (shhhh!).

I love wrapping activities (especially when it involves ribbons, although my human is always holding the ribbon).

It took a little longer because my human picked up the wrong package at the post office. So she had to go back…
Kitshka and I did inspect the content of the package to make sure nothing was missing.

Okay human, you can send it... now!

Okay human, you can send it… now!

Did you know that our furriends Star and Leo, from Celestial Kitties, and their human, are running a Christmas Fundraiser for Winnie’s Wish?

WWchristmas fundraiser banner

Star’s and Leo’s human, Andrea, is making (herself! – it’s not my human who could do that!) beautiful Christmas ornaments, some of which can even be purrsonalized with our names!

Here are ours:

Xmas-Ornaments_01

You can even ask for catnip inside. Since the humans won’t have a Christmas Tree (they are afraid we Kitshka will destroy it), the ornaments serve as toys for us. Yep. Ours have catnip.

For a donation of $15 you get three ornaments. Additional ornaments are $3 each.

Every dollar above postage and a very tiny materials amount goes to Winnie’s Wish! That’s about $12 a basic set! Winnie’s Wish is dedicated to rescuing abandoned or feral kitties and finding them great homes where they can be loved for the rest of their lives!

Go check the details here!

They were instantly successful with us. They are beautiful, smell sooooo good and make great pillows too!

Look at my reaction first!
[click on any picture to biggify]

Kitshka was first hesitant, but that didn’t last long!
[click on any picture to biggify]

Milou was a little shy because he’s not used to being featured on a blog…
[click on any picture to biggify]

Okay Milou. Thanks for this but the goal was to play with the ornament. Never mind.

As the nip guru, I of course had to try each and every ornament, to make sure the nip was extra great quality. It was.

What? I know it's Milou's!

What? I know it’s Milou’s!

Yes, I know it's Kitshka's!

Yes, I know it’s Kitshka’s!

I'm not stealing them I'm testing them!

I’m not stealing them I’m testing them!

Look!

You know what?

You know what?

Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks:
=^.^= to our humans, when they deserve it
=^.^= to the humans who produce the Greenies
=^.^= to our furriends for visiting our bloggies and for writing bloggies, too

It is also a time when humans give thanks (that’s when we have to be careful because they tend to give extra cuddles and kisses).

And of course, it is a time to relax with our family…

…and to enjoy a lavish (VBP) meal!

From our family to yours: HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Hiya Furriends!

I am glad because yesterday my human’s Mom arrived to stay with us for Thanksgiving. She’s coming from France!
I like her very much: she used to be my cat sitter in France and I spent some time with her. Also she was easier to train than my human ;-)

On top of that, my American furriends all know next week is Thanksgiving. In order to say thank you to all my readers, I will have one game with a secret prize (today) and one giveaway next month!
I really enjoy blogging and I hope you enjoy reading about little not-so-old me and my fur family! I know I like to read your reactions in the comments!
Also I won some prizes on furriends’ bloggies so I want to reciprocate (VBP). And soon it will be Christmas!

So, what about today’s game?

Below is a picture of something going on at our home recently (three weeks ago). But what is going on exactly? That’s what you have to tell me in the comments! I need to know: What are you seeing? Who are you seeing? What’s going on?

You have until tomorrow, Monday 19, 2012, 11.59 pm EST to comment. I won’t answer comments or give any details. Once time is over, I will take all the good answers and draw a winner randomly.

What’s the prize? Well, since my readership (how classy does that sound?) extends to more than just kitties, I will adapt the prize according to the winner and his fur family. It will still be a surprise but my human will send something we think you will like! Also, as long as you live on Planet Earth, you can play! [Sorry Martians, but my human can’t afford sending stuff to other planets]

So are you ready? Below is the picture. I hope you have fun!

Good luck!
[Yes, the image is a little blurry but that adds to the fun! You can biggify it by clicking on it!]

Humans say we are creatures of habits. But they are creatures of predictability!

They had prepared some treats for Halloween to give to kids. I don’t know whether that was because of Sandy (I heard the humans say 90% of our town had lost power! Talk about a Ceiling Cat-blessed home we have!) but no kid came. Not a single one. My human was kind of sad… not that she would have to eat the candy herself, but that possibly kids couldn’t have as much fun this year.

So a huge plastic pumpkin, 3 or 4 times the size of Milou’s heads, and full of human treats, was still waiting next to the door when my human suddenly, yesterday evening, just before going to sleep, had the most stupid idea ever. She emptied the plastic pumpkin and, guess what?

Yep. She put Greenies in the plastic pumpkin.

Of course Milou fell for it.

So did Kitshka (with Milou waiting in line for a second round).

Little not-so-old me couldn’t be bothered to enter my head in the pumpkin for a couple of Greenies so that my human could take a picture. I cannot be bought for a couple of Greenies! Now if she had put fresh salmon in there… No, no, no! I get my Greenies on my terms!

Furriends: I am back to reading your bloggies. No seriously. So I’ll see you in a short while!

Hiya furriends,

I know I haven’t posted or visited your blog for a couple of days now. I apologize. But I have a good reason.

We were so in the spirit of Labor Day Kitshka and I, with our human laboring, that we thought we should nap not only for us, but for our humans too. Aren’t we kind kitties?

We will be answering your comments and visiting your blog some time today, after our nap =^.^=

In the meantime, here are some napping techniques to help your human benefit from your napping.

Curled-up-position, or the Cat (sometimes mispronounced “Chi”) position – Let the energy flow all around

On the side position – Let’s direct the energy in the good direction

The yin-yang-kinda position – We provide the napping while the humans provide the laboring. We all have our part to play.

This position is very powerful. Let me show you how much it is powerful.

Can you feel the energy?

The top-down position – A great way to share the energy, from the top

Occupy-the-human’s-desk position – Obviously, my human’s husband’s desk needs a little “cleansing energy”

The raised-behind position – A revolutionary technique developed by Kitshka, and supervised by myself

The long-distance position – The greater the length of kitties in the house, the better

Obviously, as you can see, Kitshka shows great and promising skills. She has a good master =^.^=

Back in 2010, we had an early, very cold and snowy winter. My human was living and working near Paris, while her husband was living and working in Brussels, Belgium. Don’t ask. Humans stuff. Complicated.

Anyway, they would visit each other during weekends and when I got to stay alone, my human’s Mom was visiting me or pet sitting me at her home. During the Christmas/New Year holidays, they usually spent one in one country and the other in the other (aren’t humans a bit complicated?)

But back in 2010, when my human was going to Brussels for Christmas, it had snowed A LOT just a couple of days before and traffic was bad and chances were my human’s Mom wouldn’t be able to come visit everyday. She had no other pet sitter. Yet she had to go to Brussels for other matters than Christmas too. She knew I’d rather stay in the comfort of my home, but she decided to take me with her because there was no way I was staying alone for a week, of course.

It was very cold outside so she put lots of blankets in my carrier and we went to Brussels together. She had upgraded her ticket to a First Class ticket so that she could easily have the room to take me on her lap all the time. There were not too many people in the train so I even got my own seat.

I hated train though. I am really calm in cars but I fought to get out of my carrier during the 1 hour and 20 minutes of our train trip. My human did her best to comfort me but I didn’t like it at all. It was noisy, moving all the time… Hated it. I know she felt bad about it but once we got out of the train it was okay.

We arrived safe and sound. And I got to visit my half-brothers who had been living with their human there for a couple of months.

The apartment was an old apartment with a lot of decorations made of wood. Also you can tell that, er, my human wasn’t living there because, er, it’s a bit messy. Plus the three of us, I have to admit, added to the mess a little.

Below, this is me behind a cat door. Because one of the rooms was not well heated, keeping the door closed was better. But the cat door made sure we could get there if we so wanted. We don’t like closed doors.

Striking a pose on an old, out-of-order chimney…

Cat chatting with Grouik…

It’s tiring to be a globetrotter cat…

And enjoying local drinks. Yep, just the empty bottles (you should see the humans get all nostalgic now at the sight of a bottle of Serafijn Grand Cru beer…).

You probably expected to see me photographed with the Manneken Pis, but we never went out, it was too dangerous out there.

BUT, just for you, I asked my human to make a bit of an effort to help me for once and thanks to the magical Photoshop tool here we are!

Wishing you all a great week!

My human explained to me that today is America’s birthday. America is where I live now. I moved with the humans and half-brothers a little less than a year ago.

My human had been talking about me, her and the others moving to America for quite some time before. She was very excited. I didn’t understand at the time. She had also told me before that I would go to Ireland too but I never went. Milou didn’t like Ireland (that story is for another post) so I don’t really care. But America is great: I have a huge garden with little live animals to observe. And also the catnip plant is starting to smell like catnip (another post too)! Fresh catnip! Very nice. Of course I have to live with my half-brothers who never play with me but that’s okay. Also I miss my human’s mom sometimes (T’was fun to play “treat or bite” with her!). But I like America.

So since it is America’s birthday today, and it is my first time in America, I asked my human to take a couple of pics of me with an American flag.

I want to wish America a special, HAPPY BIRTHDAY with lots of purrs!

Ah, well, we cats were simply created to be stars!

Here’s a story about Hoops and his humans.

Sound is important because the men make e-cards, email greetings in the form of short animations. Their core franchise stars an excitable pink cat named Hoops and his little green rabbit sidekick, YoYo, their voices high-pitched to an almost chipmunk-like shrillness. Hallmark said Hoops & YoYo, which have almost 200 cards online, account for about one-third of its total e-cards sent. The cartoon duo now have their own line of paper cards, coffee mugs, plush dolls, bumper stickers and a holiday TV special.

Go send a card to your Mom! Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms!

Sigh. I wish I would remember my Mom.

Wishing everyone reading my blog, furriends and humans, fans and followers, a very Happy New Year! May 2012 bring you lots of purrs and treats!

I’m feeling in a romantic mood in this new year, so I would like to start 2012 by sharing this poem by W. B. Yeats: The Cat and the Moon.

The cat went here and there
And the moon spun round like a top,
And the nearest kin of the moon,
The creeping cat, looked up.
Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,
For, wander and wail as he would,
The pure cold light in the sky
Troubled his animal blood.
Minnaloushe runs in the grass
Lifting his delicate feet.
Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?
When two close kindred meet,
What better than call a dance?
Maybe the moon may learn,
Tired of that courtly fashion,
A new dance turn.
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
From moonlit place to place,
The sacred moon overhead
Has taken a new phase.
Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils
Will pass from change to change,
And that from round to crescent,
From crescent to round they range?
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
Alone, important and wise,
And lifts to the changing moon
His changing eyes.

— W. B. Yeats

I was nice. My half-brother was naughty. Naughty-naughty.

Santa Paws came and brought me cool gifts:

A new bed

A noisy little red bag

A couple of toys

And treats (er, sorry no pics here, ahem).

But I have questions about Santa Paws, more and more questions every year.

First my human spent all Friday, Dec. 23 looking outside, repeating “when is Fedex going to deliver Texas’ gift?” What Fedex is, she wouldn’t say. Is it some kind of translation for Santa Paws in human?

Then around 7 pm, when my human was having dinner with her male human, there was a bright light on the deck, clearly visible because it was dark outside. Then a loud knock on the door. Humans are noisy, aren’t they? My human ran to the door. I heard “UPS”, she said thanks and came back inside with a huge box saying “Look Texas, Santa Paws came for you”. But Friday was only Dec. 23. Hmmm.

She went back to dinner and left the box unattended. I repeat she said: “Look Texas, Santa Paws came for you.” What was I supposed to understand? So what did I do?

I opened the box! And there was a big comfy plastic bag with something brown inside. My human ran to me saying “no no no, you can’t open it! Awww… he opened it! What a clever little kitty!” You bet I’m clever. Like there was anything difficult in opening a box. She continued: “well well, I guess I can give you the present Santa brought to you now, since you saw it!” And here came the bed.

See, humans can be curious creatures. Sometimes I wonder whether they wouldn’t tend to react to some kind of reverse, reverse psychology with us. Which is not exactly clever. They claim they want us to be nice. But they “aww” us when we misbehave. They should know cats do exactly what they want to do. Humans aren’t as smart as we are. But I digress. Reverse psychology so. Sparkle’s post here tends to confirm my thoughts.

Anyway, my human was all happy because I opened the box and I was happy because… I had a brand new box, er, bed and lots of wrapping paper.

I was happy until Milou, one of my half-brothers, seized the occasion that I was enjoying all the cool things of Christmas (mainly wrapping paper) to steal my new bed!

My human bravely tried to take him out. Her male human wanted him to stay in. Pfft, Milou is ALWAYS stealing my stuff. See?

But in the spirit of Christmas, and to please our humans, Milou and I decided to make a truce. If only for a couple of hours ;-)

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and Santa Paws didn’t forget you!

Purrzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…

My list to Santa Paws

My human likes to surf the Internet. These days she has been looking for presents for Christmas for her human, my brothers and I.

I was actually quite glad to learn that we, cats, were not excluded from Christmas and marketers’ targets. Unfortunately, I saw the best of goodies for us cats as well as the worst (like this – a no-no for me). Well, the same goes for humans, by the way.

So here’s my top five to Santa Paws… and my human (Come on! I’m 5! I know my human helps Santa Paws do his shopping!)

  1. A new bed (those ones look comfortable)
  2. Thrill treats – plenty!
  3. A Thermo Blanket
  4. Cat toy catnip Yule log, or one of these catnip toys
  5. A subscription to Cat Fancy Magazine

What is your list for Santa?
