I have good news for all my furriends who were concerned about my welfare because the humans had killed the boxes. We I got brand new ones!

And guess who was determined (VBP) to play with my tail?
[you can click on any pic to biggify it]

So, what are we thankful for, this week?

Me, for my boxes. Kitshka, for my tail. Jet, Savvy and I, for your pawticipation in our blog hop.

Today is VBP (Vocab Building Project) Thursday!

What am I talking about? One cool, versatile (VBP), and funny blog hop for those who love to learn new words.

You can enter a new entry each week. The hosts, Jet, Savvy, and me post every Thursday but YOU, my furriends, can post anytime you want from Thursday to Wednesday each week, and then all you have to do is enter your permalink (VBP) to the collection of participants by clicking on the little blue badge at the bottom of our Thursday post. All the details can be found here.

Mark Twain is supposed to have said that

Action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often.

Well, our furriends did just that this past week: their posts (action) were loud as often as their words… if that makes any sense! (No I didn’t have nip. Yet.)

Here is this first week’s collection of pawticipants: 9 PAWTICIPANTS! (If I take away Savvy and I, as well as Spitty, which I believe said he mistakenly entered his post? Spitty, easy on the nip, pal)

Here they are (click on the image to visit the VBP post, on the name of the blog to visit their blog):

Bama from Shat Cast

Fenris from Alasandra, the Cats and Dogs

Ann from Pawsitively Pets

Loy from Yikes! Loy Turns 60

Easy from Easyrider

Misaki from The Misadventures of Misaki

Mollie and Alfie from Mollie and Alfie

Gizmo from Terrier Torrent

Dogs N Pawz (I am not sure about your name, furriends, sorry)

Isn’t that dazzling (VBP)? THANK YOU so much for your pawticipation!

Now, since I had to input each furriend one by one (because wordpress.com doesn’t allow script – whatever that means!), I think I need a little nap.

Before that I would just like to remind you that I have a giveaway for two pawsome 2013 created by The Creative Cat. Check it out here and don’t hesitate to pawticipate (wherever you are)!

We are looking forward to your next VBP entry! Purrs y’all!

We kitties do not need planners or calendars. But our humans do. Are your humans still looking for a 2013 calendar? Read on.

We were recently contacted by animal artist Bernadette Kazmarski, whose blog, The Creative Cat, I’m sure all of you know. If for some reason you don’t, I urge you to visit her website.

Bernadette is a multi-talented artist and an animal lover. My human and I enjoy the many ways she shares her passions on her website: from pictures of the members of her extended family of furry friends, to beautiful paintings, drawings, sketches of kitties (hers and others’), to beautifully written stories of rescued kitties, there is always something funny, moving, or inspiring (usually a combination of the three) to enjoy at her place on the Internet.

So we were thrilled and honored when she contacted us (really me, Texas) to ask if we would be interested in reviewing her 2013 calendars: In the Kitchen with Cookie & Compositions in Black and Green.

Compositions in Black and Green will be sure to meet your daily needs for mischievous kitty prowesses: playing in their human’s bathroom, offering their both cute and majestic mirror reflection to the artist’s camera. Each month offers wonderful and funny pictures of Bernadette’s five black cats in front of the white and green theme of the artist’s kitties’ bathroom.
Mimi, Mewsette, Jelly Bean, Mr. Sunshine and Giuseppe Basil Verdi will assuredly help you start each day of 2013 on the right paw. It will also help you see black cats in a whole new color.

In the Kitchen with Cookie will bring you an assistant chef in form of a calendar. When your name is Cookie, you make it a point to wear your colors (especially when they are tortoiseshell) proudly and that surely gives you a licence to spend more time than any kitty can dream of spending in the kitchen. This calendar is an adorably sweet (and savory) mix of beautiful pictures of Cookie and related (to Cookie’s postures) recipes from the artist. Evidently, Bernadette and Cookie formed a great team in the kitchen.
I tried to convince my human to try the cheesecake recipe (especially since Cookie seemed to require that kitties test the filling) but my human is on a diet too! She preciously kept the recipe though.

Both calendars allow for you to input important appointments and some notes. Yet they are small enough to fit in a hand bag if necessary. They both exist bound either on the top (as a wall calendar) or to the left (as a journal calendar). My human had a preference for the journal calendar, but it all depends how you expect to use it. Both versions of both calendars can be ordered here.

Bernadette has kindly offered to giveaway one copy of In the Kitchen with Cookie (wall calendar) and of Compositions in Black and Green (journal calendar).
To win a copy, please leave a comment telling us which calendar you prefer and why. Don’t forget to leave your email so I can contact you if you win. You have until Saturday, Jan. 26, 9.00 pm EST. A random drawing will give us the two winners, that I will announce on Sunday.

***Receiving a copy of the calendars did not influence this kitty’s or his human’s opinion.***

Yesterday, I was reading Daisy’s post at PetMeds Blog and I learned that today is National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day!

Needless to say, all three of us – Milou, Kitshka, and I – have questions for our humans! So there you go!

Milou

How come I cannot eat Texas’ and Kitshka’s yummiest food?
Because it makes you seriously sick, then I have to get you to the V-E-T and he performs outrageous things on your business end to fix you.

Why are you feeding me only 18 times a day when I’m hungry 28 times?
Because I actually have to work so I can afford your diet food among others, and get a little sleep (I don’t require 18h a day but still).

I’m hungry. Can I have food now?
You had food 10 minutes ago!

Kitshka

Can the birdies outside be invited inside the house?
No sweetie, they are meant to live outside. Inside, they could not fly.

How come I cannot eat Texas’ and Milou’s yummiest food?
Because you have your special kitten food, so that you can healthily grow into a beautiful Ladycat. Texas is currently on diet food* and Milou has a special urinary diet.

Why don’t you let the cream cheese on the table, ever?
I don’t want it to turn sour.**

Me, Texas

Why don’t you eat fresh shrimps more often?
Because we don’t want to eat shrimps everyday.

Why can’t we keep all the boxes you receive?
I know you love boxes, Texas. And there will always be boxes for you to play with. We cannot have boxes everywhere though. We, humans, live here too, you know (not in boxes though).

How come I cannot eat Milou’s yummiest food?
Because Milou has a special urinary diet, he cannot eat*** anything else, and this type of food is very high in calories.

* Texas: Human! You didn’t have to tell!
** Kitshka: Yeah, right. Just because I am a kitten doesn’t mean I am stupid. You just don’t want to share!
*** Milou: Speaking of eating…

My human had an urgent (understand: she had completely forgotten about it) paper to finish yesterday and could not finish the post we wanted to have today.
This morning, she felt like she had caught a cold or something, so today’s post had to be rescheduled.

I haven’t posted a “Monday are for Memories” for some time now, so here is a picture of me napping in my carrier when I was a little less than 3 months. I had just been adopted (3 days before). The picture was taken on my human’s birthday (really human, who cares about that?).

Have a great day, furriends!

This morning, I read this great post at The Conscious Cat about how humans should take time for themselves. Those are simple yet very wise pieces of advice. It puzzles me that humans have to be reminded about that.

After reading that post, I convinced Kitshka that we should help our human relax and take Sunday in a relaxing way. She has to take time for herself (after feeding us of course) instead of using the evil vacuum cleaner to clean the house. Kitshka was playing with my tail, as always, while I was deep in thought and I had to convince her it would be fun. And fun it was.

Here is how we tried to use hypnosis to relax our human (You can click on the pics to get a closer look at our method).

Your eyelids are heavy human, very heavy... you want to close your eyes...

Texas: You feel like laying down… lay down on the couch nearby…
Kitshka: Texas I feel a little snoozzzzzzzz coming…

And at that point there was a big BANG and a human OUCH!

Texas: Oooops! Kitshka: Did you forgot there was a coffee table between her and the couch, Texas?

Hey It’s Jet, Savannah and Texas Here.

By now, you probably figured out that Texas, Savannah and I have put our collective fur together, (ok, our Moms helped, too), to make the Vocabulary Building Project an official Blog Hop!

We enjoyed giving you hints all week: click here for Savannah’s post, here for Jet’s post and here for my post in case you missed them.

How did we begin? Texas and Savannah turn to Jet…you better tell this part, Jet…

Oh, Ok…Jet Here… let me tell you how Mom and I started this a long time ago on our blog:

Mom’s Papa always asked his children and grandchildren to keep pen and paper beside their beds so when they read their books and came upon an unknown word they could jot it down to look up later. When the family got together they played lots of vocabulary building games. So, when Mom and I began blogging, she wanted to avoid word ruts.

Last spring, Mom inquired whether Savannah and Miss Linda might like to collaborate (VBP) on making VBP a hop… Savannah and Miss Linda introduced us to Texas and Miss Carine creating the VBP Planning Committee.

We’ve been working diligently (VBP) ever since! Miss Ann, Zoey and Maggie from Zoolatry created a pawsome badge, which Miss Carine did really high tech thingies to! Check out Zoey, Prop Mistress extraordinaire, helping with badge arrangements.

First, she made sure the dictionary was sitting properly (VBP) on the table… (notice it is our very special dictionary with all our initials on it)…

Then she had to hop up to make sure it was going to stay straight for the photo shoot and she wanted to see if she could get the bookmark stuck in too…

Great job Zoey, thanks for the help!… as you can see, our VBP Badge is pawfect!

So let’s all talk about what to do now…

How to pawticipate

The Vocab Building Project, or VBP, is a blog hop that invites you to

learn new vocabulary and how to use it,

have fun in the process, using new words in a weekly blog post,

discover new blogs and make new friends.

What do you have to do? It is very simple.

  1. Every Thursday, Jet, Savannah, and Texas will write a blog post containing 2 to 3 words or expressions that are not often used in their blog posts (see examples here, here, and here),
  2. If you decide to join us in the fun, you have one week (you can pick any day you wish, from Thursday to the next Wednesday, that’s how flexible this blog hop is!) to write a blog post containing 2 to 3 words or expressions that you do not use often – it does not have to be the same as the hosts’, this is your choice,
  3. Pick one of the following badges by copying its code below (select the text in the box, right-click on selected code and copy), paste the code in your post (you have to paste it in the Text/HTML section when you write your post), write your post and don’t forget to add (VBP) after each new word you are using. We strongly suggest you only use 2-3 just to keep it easy and interesting,
  4. When your post is online, enter its URL/permalink by clicking on the Inlinkz image that you will find at the bottom of our Thursday VBP post,
  5. The following Thursday, at the end of our VBP posts, we will link to all the participating blogs, so that we can all visit participating blogs.

Any question? Leave a comment below and we will get back to you as soon as pawsible!

Deceit! (VBP)

The humans have flattened our boxes! They say it doesn’t look good in their living room. Oh the humanity!

Fortunately, until the garbage humans come pick them up, there is still a chance that I can save them!

Yep, these are OUR boxes!

If I can only manage to take them out of behind the couch...

Have you read my furriend Savannah’s post yesterday? There have been crazy things going on at her place.

Isn’t it strange? I mean, human letters going crazy… hmm… I can’t say I like it lots. I’d rather have shrimps flying around, if you ask me.

So Savannah called me through her Fast Leopard Teleport Tunnel to ask me to help. Only it was about midnight at her place… which means about 3 am here.

I can’t say there have not been some strange things going on here too… Some furriends have noticed!

What is this secret page on my blog’s menu?… Katie Isabella and The Cool Cat Blog wrote their concern to me…

Also the other day, Kitshka came to me to show me a letter she had found! She had found a B!

Wait! I found much more letters, later!

But there were too many! What could that possibly mean?!

I think the best thing to do is to ask another furriend… Jet.

Yes. Let’s all meet at Jet’s place tomorrow!

Hiya Furriends,

I hope you all had a great weekend, wherever you are!

First, I want you to know that something compelling (VBP) is coming up, so stay tuned!

~~~~~
If you haven’t read my post about Architects for Animals, you might want to check it here.
Interestingly (VBP), I recently read about an initiative that has some relation to this project. I read it at a French furriends’ bloggie Deux Chats dans ma Cuisine (Two Cats in my Kitchen) and I thought you might be interested in knowing about it and… helping. Don’t worry it is as easy as cleaning your toesies.
The project is called SOS Couvertures (Blanket SOS) and here is what it is about:
Animal shelters’ cages are located outside, so everytime temperature falls, animals are very much exposed to cold weather. Shelters then need blankets to help warm the animals.
SOS Couvertures’ goal is to help finance these blankets. Everytime someone clicks on the [clic] button (on the left) our sponsors finance 2 square centimeters (0.002 square feet) of blanket. Thank you everyone for your help.
That’s right. All you have to do is click on the “clic” button. You can do this once every 8 hours. Easy as cleaning your toesies!
You can see pictures of some delivered blankets here.
Can you click? It will benefit French shelters, but everyone can click.
~~~~~

And now, I offer you pictures of Kitshka in front of delicious noms (SHRIMPS!!!) to help you start your week well.

Can I have some? Can I have some??

Can I have some? Can I have some??

OMC! The human is putting one into bits for us! OMC!

OMC! The human is putting one into bits for us! OMC!

Should I stay or should I go now?

Should I stay or should I go now?

My human went to the Third Annual “Architects for Animals: Giving Shelter” event last Thursday. This project, which was launched in 2010, aims at helping NYC feral cats:

Every year since 2010, some of New York’s most prestigious architectural designers, through an inventive project called Architects for Animals, have been helping New York City’s feral cats by creating imaginative winter shelters to provide them with a refuge from the cold. We are delighted to present these collections of unique, inspired winter shelters for public viewing at the Architects for Animals: Giving Shelter exhibit before they are placed in locations throughout the city to provide comfort for the cats. This annual exhibition benefits the New York City Feral Cat Initiative of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals.

It was taking place in the place called Manhattan, very close to Columbus Circle.

I would like to start by thanking Sparkle for posting so quickly about the event (that’s how we learned, and we live in NY!), and Tamar of I Have Cat for sending the info to bloggers.

Thankfully, a lot of people showed up; the showroom was crowded.

So of course, my human didn’t even offer to bring me to the event. Okay, there was a LOT of people, but she could have offered still.

My human took the pictures during the event, so the pictures tend to be crowded too. You can see good shots of each shelter at Cat Wisdom 101 and I Have Cat. But here are my human’s.

Leslie Farrell, founder of Architects for Animals, made a short speech to thank everyone. She got a little emotional.

She invited everyone to pick some kibbles at the buffet to put in their favorite shelter’s bowl, in order to vote. Yes, furriends, despite my human pretending there would be only human food at the buffet, there were kitty kibbles!

The first one is by M. Moser Associates. You can click on the third picture to read more about these kitty pods.
See the bowl on the floor? That’s in those that people could vote by throwing kibbles in there.

AFA_04

The following one, Shelter A, was created by Callison Barteluce. You can also click on the third pic to see details (although the quality isn’t that great)

The following one, Swiss Cheese by Stonehill & Taylor, was entirely made of recycled materials.

The next one is a simple, one cat shelter, by H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture. You can click on this one.

Since this is NYC, it’s only fair that kitties have their skyscraper (okay kinda) too. This one is by Francis Cauffman.

The last one my human took pictures of (apparently, she missed one) is quite original. It is made with recycled cat food cans (yes, cat food cans!) that are insulated. The shelter is made so that 2 to 4 cats can be inside it at the same time, but still not be too close to one another (I am not sure it is very visible on the third picture, but the inside kind of has corners). It was made by the American Street Cat. This shelter is aready being used (check here).

Last but not least, this DIY NYC Cat Fort, by Pilot Projects. Isn’t that cool?! You can find the details here.

My human was glad to see Tamar of I Have Cat and Layla of Cat Wisdom 101, that she had both met at the Rentaneko projection. She was also very glad to meet Kevin and Tracey of Animal Shelter Volunteer Life. I wish I could have meet them too!

All in all, my human says the event appeared to be successful. Let’s hope it will be able to do its part to help NYC feral kitties.

You can find more pictures here, as well as “in progress photos of a habitat for NYC’s homeless animals,” Stonehill & Taylor’s shelter, on Stonehill & Taylor’s Facebook page.

First of all, a big THANK YOU to everyone who voted for me for the Westchester Magazine contest! I am SO lucky to have you for Furriends! I will, of course, keep you posted (VBP) on the results.
(If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you might have missed this post ;-)

~~~
Secondly, my human was at Architects for Animals: Giving Shelter yesterday and I will post some pictures tomorrow. So come back tomorrow, please :-)
~~~

Now, I know that you are waiting for Little K, aka (VBP) Mademoiselle Kitshka’s pictures so, here they are! The pics are not great because my human used her iPhone for fear Kitshka would follow her if she went looking for a better camera.

What is Kitshka’s strategy to break into Milou’s heart? Naps.

This first two pictures were taken last September. This was Kitshka’s first nap with Milou. Milou wasn’t too pleased.

Since Milou was grumpy before Grumpy Cat was his idol, Kitshka tried a different approach. She tried to charm him by keeping a little distance.

Then nothing much happened. They played a little bit from time to time, he hissed a lot.

Then the other day, Kitshka tried her charms on Milou again. Starting with the second approach, first.

And then today…

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

See how my charm works marvels?

See how my charm works marvels?

Good morning, Milou!

Good morning, Milou!

Kitshka: Nothing like a good yawn to start the day!
Milou: Is she impersonating Celine Dion?

Kitshka: I think we should exercise a little. What do you think?
Milou: Hmpf

Kitshka: Too too too you toot*…
Milou: OMC! She’s impersonating the female human!

No! Don't go, Milou!

No! Don’t go, Milou!

Kitshka: Look! The human is taking pics of us!
Milou: I know that! Texas is going to make fun of me on his blog again!

Kithska: What if we ask the human to stop taking pics?

Kithska: What if we ask the human to stop taking pics?

Can you stop taking pics?

Can you stop taking pics?

Kitshka: I guess we’re done here then

* I thought I would share some of the humans’ French culture. Ahem. Dates back to when they were kids. The “too too you toot” link is the music of a French aerobics TV program. Check here. Humans, they are funny sometimes.

All this movement made me feel like napping…

My Dear Furriends,

Do you think I am cute? I think I am. And so does my human. That’s the reason why she entered me in Westchester Magazine’s 3rd Annual Pet of the Year Contest. Since we live in Westchester County, NY, I am eligible (VBP).

If you answered yes to the above question, would you vote for me (here) purrlease?

Each person can only vote once. But we can encourage our furriends to vote for us.

What do you have to do? Here is what the voting page says:

Help us find the county’s most darling, precious, special pets to feature in our April 2013 Pet Section. Peruse our entrants here and rank any or all from 1 star (yuck, what is that thing?) to 5 stars (pet perfection!). At the end of the voting period (January 17, 2013), the editorial staff will select 10 of the top 20 rated pets to be photographed for the pet issue; one of the 10 will be our pet centerfold—meow!

So, you can go to the voting page and vote for one or several pawticipants. Here is a screen capture of my entry, for you to find it easily:

Hopefully, if you decide to vote for me, you will give me 5 stars (pet perfection).

Once you are done voting, scroll down to the bottom of the page, enter your email address (if you don’t want to subscribe to Westchester Magazine’s newsletters, you can untick all the boxes) and click “VOTE.” You will get a page listing who you voted for and how many stars you gave those you voted for.

That’s as simple as that!

So, would you vote for me if you think I’m cute? You have until January 17, that’s just a little more than a week.

In advance, a big THANK YOU to all those who will do! And to everyone, here’s some cuteness from me.

I don’t know what I love best: my fishie or the silvervine in its tummy. I lick it, I nom it, I play rough with it… okay sometimes I kiss it too. Everybody needs a little love, even silvervine fishies.

Nobody is allowed to touch my fishie though. Not even Kitshka. This is MY fishie.

You can click on any picture if you want a bigger me on your screen. Who wouldn’t want a bigger me on their screen? Not you, I hope!

Last November, I entered a contest on CatFoodBreath to win some goodies from the sassyNpunk boutique. I thought that it would make a nice Christmas present for my human (since she is not particularly fond of hairballs and she gets some of my white fur on her traditional black pants all year long anyway).

I was surprised but very happy to learn that I had won! A few days ago, my human received her present and she liked it very much. The goodies are for girls of course, and guess who else was interested? You guessed right: Mademoiselle Kithka.

Are you resolute (VBP) enough with your human’s resolutions?

Just yesterday, I was commenting on Sparkle’s excellent (as always, may I add) post on her resolutions for her human: I had planned this present post for yesterday but… guess what? Yesterday’s post was supposed to be posted the day before yesterday but the day before yesterday, I posted nothing because my human claimed to have hurt herself while doing the house cleaning (how worse an excuse can we get from humans, really?!).

So if I have, for myself, one resolution for 2013, that would be to be more resolute in having my human stick to her resolutions. We have to keep an iron paw on this stuff, because you know, humans can’t really stick to their resolutions.

Note that this resolution for me is really forced on me because of my human. We kitties don’t need no education, er, resolution. Whatever. We are purrfect. On this, again, I salute Sparkle for reminding this to the humans.

So without further ado (VBP), here are my resolutions for my human:

  1. Wake up earlier to feed Kitshka: she won’t bother me because she’s hungry AND that will give you more time to work on my blog
  2. Organize, plan ahead and schedule… and stick to it! In order to help you, human, I have offered you – okay unearthed (VBP) from your library – a book that will help you:
  3. In order to remind you what’s really important, put a sticker on the cover of the book, like this:
  4. Click if you can't see the sticker

  5. Never run out of Greenies again – EVER.

Well, I think that’s a good start. I don’t want to ask too much because, you know, humans have their limits (and these limits are quite… limited).

Do you think I am asking too much? Are you asking more or less of your human?

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013!

2012 brought us many surprises, good and bad.
The sad part was that we lost Grouik. We still miss you lots, Grouik, especially Milou.
The good part was that we met many furriends, may I add furry and human. Our furriends were there to support us in the bad times, we tried our best to support them when they needed some purrs too. We are very lucky to have found you and we really – REALLY – appreciate you visiting my little blog. So THANK YOU!

For 2013, we wish you all that your heart desires and deserves, as well as lots of purrs, treats, and for the humans, some of our fur to make your black pants a little more sophisticated!

Before closing the 2012 page, we thought we would do a small retrospective (VBP) of some of our 2012 posts. We decided to show you those that got the most likes, one per month.

I started the year in January with a Yeats poem. In February, bed sharing had only just begun.

In March, bed sharing was in full swing.

In April, Milou was trying to steal my wind (no pun intended – please!).

In May, I demanded an explanation to Milou.

June brought fresh catnip.

July was a very sad month, because Grouik went to the Rainbow Bridge. So instead of linking to a post, I will link to his page.

August brought us Kitshka!

September was destroy-a-toy month for Kitshka.

In November, we purred for peace (still are of course).

In December, we kept ourselves warm and almost cozy!
